Trenchtown Rock

Trenchtown Rock (named after a neighborhood in Kingston, Jamaica) is an excellent restaurant in Charlotte Amalie...
it is not a place to go when in a hurry. Good food takes time...
these two beers are the most common here. Presidente from Santo Domingo and Carib from Trinidad $4 each with napkin affixed to top...
there are only two vegan entrees on the menu, but they are enough to keep us coming back: 'BBQ Tofu' with Fungi made vegan, Steamed Cabbage and Steamed vegetables $11. Outstanding...
another day's 'BBQ Tofu' with Rice & Beans and Steamed Vegetables...
and the 'Veggie Mezzi' $16.95 Vegetables and Pasta sauteed in Coconut Sauce. Also outstanding...
a cruise ship showed up today now that the storm has passed and the tourists flocked to see the Drake's Seat Donkey. I cant believe I live in a place where people want to take selfies...
cute bumper sticker...
a flower in bloom out front of Drina's Organic Farm...
Lots more to come. Bye for now...

Tofu with Curry Sauce Three Ways

I am a huge fan of Tofu in Curry Sauce and there is no shortage of it on the Island. Here are some recent examples. Carried out from Peking Tokyo in Red Hook. The entrance is under the pink flowers...
Nice firm Tofu with deeply flavorful Sauce. Good even without Chopsticks (they did give me Chopsticks but I lost them at some point)...
Great Wall in Havensight...
tasty Spring Roll...
most unique Sauce. I look forward to getting this again even though it was made with soft Tofu...
served in a heavy clay pot...
China King also in Havensight...
friendliest service and atmosphere...
tasty Spring Roll...
kudos for the fresh crunchy Vegetables. Sauce wasnt too spicy, but didnt impress me, I doubt I will return...
there is even more Tofu In Curry Sauce coming up, but till then, here is a flower...
Hunkering down for Tropical Storm Erika. Bye for now.

Genips and Magen's and Toona

Thanks to all who signed the petition. I will post if I hear anymore about it. So I finally tried a few Genips. They were tart and enjoyable in my mouth, but because they are 90% seed, I had to pull each one out of my mouth after a minute or so of, well, sucking. That part I didnt like, but it seemed like if you just kept the Genip in your mouth, it could be like an all day sour ball...
so I peeled them all (they are easy to peel)....
and gave them to the Chickens, who expressed interest...
took some pics at Magen's Bay yesterday morning. There were lots of Pelicans feeding, but only one of the 20 or so pics I took of them barely came out...
there is a protected Mangrove...
with exotic critters lurking within...
no hugging this tree...
a flower next to the shower area...a shower flower!
I always look for these two every time I come...
if I dont see them I get worried...
they are surprisingly friendly for being 100% outdoors...
Another surprise was seeing cans of Vegan Toona at The Fruit Bowl....
surprised again that it was brown....
even though it was packed in Oil I still mixed in a little Vegenaisse. Tasted decent enough, I wouldnt identify it as tuna, but I may buy it again...
Lots more to come. Bye for now.

A Petition and Pics

Please sign this petition to make it a law for owners to spay and neuter their pets here on the USVI. The formerly-barn-cats-now-guest-room-cats are starting to loosen up. Below are Marmalade and her son, Donovan, making an appearance at the door to their room...
I am aware I need to sweep up some kitty litter...
this morning, we went to a Farmer's Market in town...
we got there several hours after they had opened, so probably missed a lot of interesting stuff. Drina's Farm is right around the corner from our house...
I paid $2 for a bunch of Genips, but havent tried them yet...
we saw a cool looking juice stand set up and wanted to get some fresh juice...
but the guy running the stand would not stop shaving sugar cane to make us juice, so we just moved on...
and went to an Arts and Crafts Show in Tillet Gardens.Below are things made out of corks...
I wish I had taken more pics, I was remiss...
a beautiful cement bird bath with a blooming water lily at the gardens...
I bought a stained glass fish and will post a pic when I hang it up. Below is an Iguana that was sunning itself on our fence a couple days ago...
they are shy and this was as close as I could get before it ran away...
very early morning, a baby Lizard was on one of the kitchen cabinets...
but, it too, ran away before I could get it...
and here is a big Lilac Bush in bloom near our house. It was attracting lots of Hummingbirds...
a close-up of the blossoms...
Thanks for all the well wishes for Poley. As you can see, he is still looking a lot worse for wear and tear, but a weekly IV drip of amino acids plus a bunch of antibiotics, steroids and other pills are keeping him alive. Had to throw out two dog beds due to his not being able to get up in time to pee, so it's towels for now...
Molly still looks gorgeous however. And, yes, they are neutered and spayed respectively...
So there was a little food related stuff in there. Bye for now.
