Road Town

Took the 8:30am Road Town Ferry to Tortola this morning. By the time I got out of Immigration and Customs, it was almost 11:00am. I headed down Main Street to Island Roots Cafe...
nothing vegan for breakfast, so I got a 'Tropical Cleanser' $6 Kale, Pineapple, Banana, Coconut and Ginger from their 'Original Series'...
pretty decent, but only eight ounces...
continued on down Main Street with my Smoothie and met these fantastic dogs. So loving (once they got up). Unless I had my I own boat, I couldnt bring them home...
nice shrub...
another block down the street I saw a Hen with her Chick on her back...
I have seen a ton of Chickens on the Islands, but this was a first for me...
I took a small detour on Fleming Street and browsed Riteway Market to see if there was anything new veganwise. Was surprised to see Crisco has gotten into the Coconut Oil game. That is a good sign...
also noticed some Very Strong Rum...
then I went across the street to check out Mellow Moods...
I thought I might eat here...
but nothing on the menu jumped out at me, the Veggie Burgers were the non-vegan Grillers...
so I got an Apple, Carrot and Celery Juice $5 which was fantastic and continued on back down Main Street....
till I finally arrived at my destination: the J.R. O'Neal Botanic Garden, which, as you can see, was locked up nice and tight...
Major bummer as I could tell through the bars it was a great looking garden. I strolled around the perimeter taking pics...
some in focus...
some not so much in focus...
love these...
and these...
I made my way back towards the ferry and stopped for lunch at the Village Cay Marina. Fortunately, they have one hour free wifi because it took almost that long to get served...
their menu lists a 'Vegan Marina Masta' (dont know if that is a misprint) but it made me assume it was a vegan dish. When the server finally brought it, after I missed an earlier ferry waiting for it, I was surprised and asked, "Is that cheese on top?" and he very joyfully responded, "Yes! Parmesan Cheese!" It was the real stuff too cuz it was melting into the sauce rapidly, there was no eating around it...
Boxed it up for Molly and caught the 2:30pm ferry home. Yes, I brought a heavy styrofoam container of pasta through customs at both ends of the trip. On to the conveyor belts it went and through the scanners. Bye for now.

  1. That drives me INSANE when something clearly states vegan, and it isn't. You must have been starving by the time you got home, all you had were liquids all day! Although I bet Molly was a very happy puppy!
I love the first flower, it's so beautiful. But they all are! I think this is the first time I've seen grey skies since you moved!

    1. I could have devoured the entire bowl of Pasta. Molly did love it. There is still a couple meals left from it.

  2. Kind of a bummer of a food day, but both those juices look good. What was that hunk of white on top of the pasta? You're better than I am, i probably would have just scooped off the top level of the cheesy sauce and eaten it.
too bad that the botanical garden was closed but the perimeter photos do look nice. Do you think you'll go back? With a lunch packed, perhaps?
That chick on top of its mama is adorable.
Was reading yesterday's post, that peanut tattoo is funny. I should post some day about my food tattoos, maybe you'd like them.

    1. That is a hunk of buttery garlic bread on top of the pasta. The chickens got that. Believe me, I tried to avoid the cheese, but it could not be done. I am sure i will go back to the Botanic Garden again after I recover from this last attempt, waiting in line at Immigration is the draining part of it all. Yes, you should definitely post on your tattoos and what they mean.

  3. I'm glad the scenery made up for the hungry day! How disappointing they didn't have more options! I'm sure Molly appreciated your hard work of food passing through customs!

The chick riding the hen is hilarious! I want an explanation, so I'm headed to Google. Ha!

    1. Molly has been loving the pasta so much. She licks her food bowl for a really long time after every serving.

  4. Why was the garden closed?? The shots you did get are so pretty.
Gotta say i would have pitched a hangry fit at the waiter moving in slow motion who eventually showed up with cheesey pasta....! I'm sure molly appreciated it though. Hope you found something yummy closer to home

    1. I am guessing Road Town is becoming like Charlotte Amalie and shuts down when cruise ships arent in port. The beer helped calm my nerves and hunger pains, so when the cheesey pasta showed up I just chalked it up as par for the course. I cant be the first vegan to ever order it? Guess I should have spoken up for the sake of future vegan diners. Oh well.

  5. Oh no, what a bummer! I bet the liquids were refreshing but solid food is definitely a necessity as well. The scenery was really beautiful though and I hope that you finally ended up getting a good meal in your tummy.
