Market Square Farmers Market

We stopped by this morning around 8am to buy some Bananas and, by that time, most of the produce etc. had been sold. Supposedly gotta get there by 6am for the full experience...
I thought I would show some of what is in season...
I think this is Mint and Parsley...
Breadfruit is back...
I was told that the below fruits are Avocado, but I am still suspicious and didn't want to buy one just to confirm. Bananas were everywhere...
Cinnamon from Dominica...
Cashew Apple amongst the Mangoes...
aint touching that with a ten foot pole (and there is currently no reason to pay for Mangoes, they're literally falling off the trees into the roads)...
these were called 'sweet cherries'...
the Coconut Guy plowing through dozens of Coconuts....
Lunch was at the The Tap and Still. The Veggie Burger and Fries are vegan, I am 95% sure the Bun is as well, but contains mono and di-glycerides....
Below is a flower called 'Shell Ginger'...
Lots more to come. Bye for now.

Back In The USVI

So the authentic Mustard I'd bought on Sunday was tossed in the trash by the TSA in Frankfurt on Monday. Crushing scene. Afterwards, I was killing time in a Duty Free Shop and saw they had Mustard, so I excitedly bought some. It was a good 20 minutes later that I realized the new Mustard would get tossed by the TSA in Miami. Cost me $25 to then check my bag in Miami to get the Mustard home. This is some expensive Mustard...
speaking of expensive things, when I got back yesterday, found out the Mr. had gone scuba diving while I was gone. I had asked him to take pics, but alas the little door to the HDMI cable hookups wasnt properly closed and the whole camera flooded. Gonzo after six uses. Cant bring myself to throw it out...
but I did have a great Blackened Tofu Sandwich from Virgilio's today...
and I've got this neat looking Chocolate Bar to get to tonight...
Many thanks to everyone who followed along on my trip. It was grueling -- heavy backpack, sore feet, getting lost many times, being stuck in a middle seat on the transatlantic flight home, the TSA -- but I feel fortunate that I got to see so many beautiful things. Staycations only for the foreseeable future. Bye for now.

Sunday in Frankfurt

is really super quiet...
I was literally walking the streets alone much of the time...
arrived at Veganz when they opened at 11am...
my expectations were way too high. There was just a small counter with pre-made Sandwiches and Cakes. The grocery store part is now closed on Sundays, but from what I could see of it, I wasn't missing much. Denn's Biomarket was much more impressive...
the restaurant part is operated by a company called Wondergood...
the cakes looked incredible...
I mean really....
the Germans know their baked goods...
fans of Cinnamon Buns would be happy here...
I got a Cheese Sandwich...
with a side of Potato Salad. Both were very delicious, but I couldnt help but wonder what Sunday brunch was like at Vevay. Still, it was my vegan duty to check the place out...
hit the streets for more walking...
In and along the river was a waterfowl extravaganza I was not expecting. First time seeing a new bird on the trip. I have mainly seen Pigeons, Crows and Sparrows...
the below are Bean Geese..
Mute Swans...
floating along with one leg behind its back...
Egyptian Geese..
a family of Bar Headed Geese..
crossed the bridge with all the love locks...
I am a fan of romance...
tried to drink an Apfelwein. Couldnt do it. Tasted disgusting. Four Euros down the drain, but again, had to do it...
Stumbled upon Das Eis,..
Best Ice Cream I have ever had...
I got a Straciatella (Chocolate Chip) and Burgermeister (PB & Chocolate)
I am so thankful I got to try this place...
I also enjoyed a soft Pretzel in my room this afternoon. Had to buy Mustard at the store cuz they dont offer it here at the bakeries and I couldnt grab any in Burger King. Gotta admit, the Pretzel was no better than I have had in the States, but the Mustard was super strong. I will enjoy it back at home...
really interesting statue....
still have this piece of cake I bought this morning at Veganz...
Thanks for looking. I depart tomorrow at 10:45am.  auf Wiedersehen für jetzt

Greetings from Frankfurt

This is the main square in Frankfurt, which today seemed like the crossroads of the universe...
everyone and their mother was out...
there was a mob of attractive people drinking wine in front of the Kleinmarkthalle...
I made my way through that mob outside to find another one inside...
an astonishing display of produce...
freshly made pasta...
exotic herbs and spices...
a gazillion ways to stuff dates...
come to think of it, these were probably vegan, I should have bought some duh...
I did buy three Artichokes that I snacked on in my room tonight. Best marinated Artichokes I've ever had...
having a hard time keeping this post in chronological order, but backtracking to arrival in Frankfurt, lunch was at Vevay...
upon entering, you ascend the spiral staircase to a tranquil seating area (I mention this as someone whose feet were killing them and was lugging a heavy backpack at the time)...
My 'Protein Bowl' Black Bean Spaghetti, Avocado, Beets, Lentil Salad, Sweet Potatoes, Sugar Snap Peas and Roasted Hemp Seeds completely met all my needs in terms of taste and wow factor...
after lunch, while I was walking around, I noticed some impressive looking policemen...
I loves me some drama and was curious why so many cops were hanging out. Turns out there were ten officers at the ready for two women holding anti-Islam placards...
nobody probably would have noticed them if the cops werent there, but then a pubescent boy grabbed one of the signs and ran off with it while other people cheered. The anti-Islam lady went after him, followed by the cops, and I followed to see if anything happened and that is when I found...
Sandwiches!
you take some tongs and grab a Sandwich to go...
I got to try Schnitzel...
and it was good!
so thanks anti-Islam lady and pubescent boy, without you two, I never would have had that great dinner. Still got this piece of cake from Vevay to get to...
Lots more about Frankfurt tomorrow. auf Wiedersehen für jetzt
