Home and Away

Since I only use the stove top or toaster oven to cook, nothing too imaginative has yet to be made at home...
Avocado Toast for the occasional beakfast....
dinners are usually Gardein faux meats (these are the Sizzlin Szechuan Beefless Strips) with Boiled Potatoes and Heinz-57...
every Saturday I get a bowl to go of the Vegan Chili from Natural Food Grocery and Deli to have as a lunch option at home during the week...
whenever Frenchtown Deli has a Vegan Soup for the week, I stock up from there as well. Their Lentil Soup looks drab here but is exceptional...
an excellent lunch out this week a Jen's Island Deli...
Jen's Veggie Burger is so huge, I take half home to enjoy for dinner (with the usual Potatoes)...
Meson Amalia had a Pesto Pasta special on Sunday and graciously made one special for me without cheese. Really great. More to come. Bye for now.

Soggy St. John

The Mr. is going back to Virginia on Thursday, so we took a vacation day and went to St. John...
not exactly beach weather, we mainly explored...
some wet Donkeys that seemed to want food but unfortunately I had nothing for them...
I have a Pavlovian response when I think of St. John: St. John Scoops!
we both got the St. John Sunrise, rich and delicious as usual...
we didnt see any falling Goats...
but were surprised to see a young buck! Stay off the road!
Cacti were sprouting...
and these cute flowers were in bloom..
No lunch on the Island, instead I got a Hummus and Veggie Sandwich to go from Baked In The Sun tohave for dinner tonight....
Thanks for looking. Bye for now.

More Dining Out

These meals could have been served anywhere, but just happened to be prepared here in St. Thomas.
Basil Hummus Platter at Cafe Amici on Sunday. Really outstanding! Surprised how great it was.
Bruschetta Three Ways at Boom Cucina on Tuesday...
with Fettuccine al Funghi. This was excellent as well! Cant wait to go back.
The Left Banc is a really cute restaurant that opened a few weeks ago in Charlotte Amalie...
very quaint interior...
I came for the Veggie Burger, but they had run out. Since we were the only guests on Saturday afternoon, the chef had time to prepare some vegan items for me. This was a Grilled Watermelon Salad. Very unique and sweet. Almost like dessert...
and Grilled Eggplant with a Tomato Relish. Tasty considering it was Eggplant.
A long distance photo of Genip sleeping on fallen palm fronds. More to come. Bye for now.

Recent Indulgences and a Pupdate

Quinoa is becoming very ubiquitous down here....
my 'Quinoa Salad' with Arugula, Raisins, Cherry Tomatoes, Capers, Pecans and Sherry Vinaigrette at Sails was good, but not as great as the Black Bean, Corn and Avocado Salad that I came there for. Guess they change their menu seasonally...
their Drink of the Day sounded fantastic, I just wasn't in the mood to shell out $16 for it...
picked up a cheeseless Veggie Pizza from Pizza Amore. It was good. Next time I will opt for picking my own Veggies rather than the typical...
Capellini al Pomodoro Fresco carried out from Virgilio's..way too delicious...
I'm always drooling over the Rum Cakes for sale, so I was psyched to find a vegan version...
they did a great job. Will definitely stock up on these...
My Iced Soy Chai Tea from Bad Ass Coffee today was not bad ass at all. I remember Starbucks' doing better a better version...
Scrat trying to squeeze through to the front seat coming home from his neutering on Tuesday. They said he has mange, so he is now on antibiotics, bi-weekly Nextguard doses and the recipient of frequent medicated shampoos.
Sweet Sadie was found to still be heartworm positive, so she is now on (very large) antibiotics, steroids and will be going for monthly injections of 'Melarsornine', the drug that kills heartworms. The price to pay for living in paradise...lots of mosquitos. Anyway, thanks for looking. Bye for now.

The Usual Food, Critters and Flowers Post

First some highlights of the week...
a platter of Veggie Sides at Cuzzin's. Steamed Vegetables, Fries, Rice and Peas and Plaintains. The Mr. had a Veggie Burger which he greatly enjoyed. The menu said it contained eggs, but the server said that was no longer true. Maybe one day I will clarify that situation and report back here....
this is a lousy pic of the best pasta dish I ever had. Made special for me at Twisted Cork (their regular Pasta dish wasnt vegan). The Chef called it the 'Thriving Garden' and I cant stop thinking about it. So much Garlic!
My Quinoa Salad with Grilled Romaine and Blackened Tofu at Mahogany Run was very well made....
but their Bread was the highlight. Gotta get back for more of that...
On Tuesday morning, I was able to finally trick Genip into the cat carrier and hauled him to the vet. He tested negative for feline leukemia and then vaccinated against it. After neutering, they cropped his ear, and there was a significant amount of blood from that. Above is his arrival back at home Tuesday afternoon. He immediately ran out of the carrier and I thought I might never see him again...
surprisingly, he not only stuck around, but has become much friendlier and very demanding. Here he is an hour ago. Looks like he may have gotten in a scuffle last night...
Scrat's turn is next and Sweet Sadie has to be re-tested for heartworm.
Now indulge me. I took these pics today at Phantasea Botanical Garden...
That's it. Thanks for looking. More to come. Bye fo now.
