Home and Away

Since I only use the stove top or toaster oven to cook, nothing too imaginative has yet to be made at home...
Avocado Toast for the occasional beakfast....
dinners are usually Gardein faux meats (these are the Sizzlin Szechuan Beefless Strips) with Boiled Potatoes and Heinz-57...
every Saturday I get a bowl to go of the Vegan Chili from Natural Food Grocery and Deli to have as a lunch option at home during the week...
whenever Frenchtown Deli has a Vegan Soup for the week, I stock up from there as well. Their Lentil Soup looks drab here but is exceptional...
an excellent lunch out this week a Jen's Island Deli...
Jen's Veggie Burger is so huge, I take half home to enjoy for dinner (with the usual Potatoes)...
Meson Amalia had a Pesto Pasta special on Sunday and graciously made one special for me without cheese. Really great. More to come. Bye for now.

  1. Ooooh yum! Everything looks great to me! That's great that they have Gardein down there! I recently had avocado toast again and it was so good. If the Mr. can get you a bottle of that everything seasoning from Trader Joe's I highly recommend topping your avocado toast with it!

The pesto pasta looks really fresh and vibrant and that burger! Yum!!

Hope the pups are all doing well!

  2. Avocado toast breakfasts are fantastic, good decision with the lemon nearby. Are potatoes on the island different? I can't recall if they grow there. About any potato with ketchup works for me :))
That's great that you have some good soup/chili sources- although when it's hot i can't deal with hot soup.
Jen's veggie burger looks amazing! It's so chubby and i can see all the veggies inside of it.

I actually just got back from korea and china- we went to a fine dining vegetarian temple food restaurant in Seoul that was literally the best and most beautiful meal i have ever had. Lots of other fun interesting food finds, and tons of fantastic fruit (dragonfruit and kiwi juice are delicious!)

    1. There are tubers grown here, but they arent like regular Potatoes or Yams. They seem like something you have to grow up with to appreciate. I do know the Pups love the local 'ground provisions'.

Are you recovered from your trip yet? Was this your first time in Asia? How do you view NYC's Chinatown and Little Seoul now that you have experienced the real thing? I sent you and email asking for pics but must've gotten lost.

    2. I got your email and had sent a bunch of photos...maybe it's lost in your spam? The jet lag was rough but I'm finally back on nyc time. I've been craving those flavors and went to H mart in K-town so i'm good on pickled veggies, rice and mushrooms for a while

    1. This is a very vegan friendly Island. Been focusing on some negative stuff lately, so it is nice to have a reminder of what I should be grateful for. Thank you.

  4. Avocado toast and soup sound pretty fantastic! So wait, there isn't an oven or you don't turn it on because of the island heat? I'm guessing you'd have to run a/c most months of the year?

    1. There is a full-size oven in the kitchen, which I assume works, but the Mr. said to never turn it on. For some reason I have obeyed and have just used the toaster oven. Dont know what would happen if I tried the regular oven. We do run A/C most months. It is a 'split unit' which tends to break down on occasion, then all the windows and doors are opened and the mosquitos have a feast.
