The Usual Food, Critters and Flowers Post

First some highlights of the week...
a platter of Veggie Sides at Cuzzin's. Steamed Vegetables, Fries, Rice and Peas and Plaintains. The Mr. had a Veggie Burger which he greatly enjoyed. The menu said it contained eggs, but the server said that was no longer true. Maybe one day I will clarify that situation and report back here....
this is a lousy pic of the best pasta dish I ever had. Made special for me at Twisted Cork (their regular Pasta dish wasnt vegan). The Chef called it the 'Thriving Garden' and I cant stop thinking about it. So much Garlic!
My Quinoa Salad with Grilled Romaine and Blackened Tofu at Mahogany Run was very well made....
but their Bread was the highlight. Gotta get back for more of that...
On Tuesday morning, I was able to finally trick Genip into the cat carrier and hauled him to the vet. He tested negative for feline leukemia and then vaccinated against it. After neutering, they cropped his ear, and there was a significant amount of blood from that. Above is his arrival back at home Tuesday afternoon. He immediately ran out of the carrier and I thought I might never see him again...
surprisingly, he not only stuck around, but has become much friendlier and very demanding. Here he is an hour ago. Looks like he may have gotten in a scuffle last night...
Scrat's turn is next and Sweet Sadie has to be re-tested for heartworm.
Now indulge me. I took these pics today at Phantasea Botanical Garden...
That's it. Thanks for looking. More to come. Bye fo now.

  1. aww, aint that just like a cat, cagey and standoffish but you know they really just want to be friends. Genip looks like a sweetie to me. I am losing track of which dog is which though.
Glad yr finding some good food. Are the plantains there mostly sweet or savory?
I love the beautiful flower pictures. Does the weather change much? Are there more blooming now?

    1. The Plaintains I have encountered have all been sweet. I heard you guys are getting a cold snap. The weather here stays in the 80's usually. While some things appear to bloom all year, fruit trees are apparently more seasonal. I dont get how all that works.

  2. Your plate of veggie sides looks good to me. I like meals that have a little of this and a little of that myself. I'm always scared to try grilled Romaine. I just feel like certain veggies need to be crisp. Genip is so freaking adorable, I'm so glad you were able to get him to a vet. I hope he sticks close to your home and doesn't get in any more scuffles. I love the picture of all the dogs, it's so freaking cute! Good luck to Scrat! I love the beautiful tropical flower pictures!!

    1. This was my first time trying grilled Romaine. I have no clue why anyone would grill it. It would have been just as fine un-grilled.

  4. Aww what a great post! So glad that Genip and the rest of the crew is doing well. I love seeing their sweet faces, it always makes me happy.

Your meals have been looking really incredible. The veggie sides platter looks really delicious and filling and that pasta sounds great! When I do eat pasta I really love lots of garlic in it so that sounds like it would be perfect.

Gorgeous flowers! Really beautiful colors and they definitely make me ready for spring :)

  5. Veggie burgers are fine and all, but I think I like your plate of veggie sides better! Pasta, salad, bread...yes, all good choices at these establishments!

Genip probably recognizes the hard work you endure, and the animal friendly nature of your porch! I'm not remembering, but have all of your foul walked away? Is there less barking these days? They are all so cute, it would be difficult to stay mad!

    1. Almost all the fowl have decided to be free, but some know a good thing and stick around. There are 'bouts' of barking throughout the day. Sometimes everyone decides to just start barking for about a minute or so. It is random and ridiculous.

  6. You've had some great food days! The best/worst part is i bet the chef just threw together that pasta dish on the fly and wouldn't know how to recreate it!
That tofu salad looks really fabulous too.
If the waitress says the veg burger is now vegan i would take her word for it and give it a go. The platter of sides does sound like a great one either way.

I'm so glad that Genip didn't take off and is now immunized. Looks like a full deck of happy pups sunning themselves there :))

    1. I 100% agree that if I went back and asked for that Pasta dish again they would have no idea what I was talking about. You must know how it is;-)
As far as believing what the waitress says...that I am not as confident about. Maybe in NYC they take those matters more seriously.
So glad Genip is off the agenda. Got a windowsill in your apartment?

    1. There is a lot to be grateful for, that is for sure. Not so easy keeping all these critters happy and healthy though.
