St. John Again

He Who Likes Virginia Better Than The Virgin Islands is returning to the Old Dominion tomorrow to rake leaves, clean gutters and turn on the heat. Since we wont be seeing each other for a while, we took a vacation day yesterday and hopped a car ferry to St. John...

Breakfast was at Sam & Jack's. I was starving and hastily ordered the 'Skinny Leg' $10 House-Made Roasted Garlic Hummus, Arugula, Roasted Beets and Alfalfa Sprouts in a Wrap. I added Artichokes, but the thing didn't strike my fancy. Wont be getting it again...
we then drove east towards Coral Bay and met a very friendly Goat who agreed to eat the rest of my Wrap...
what a sweetie. Wish I could have taken her home, but she wouldn't be able to roam freely on our property without potentially falling into a rocky ravine...
lots of beauty and tranquility...
more Goats manicuring the baseball field...
lunch was back at De Coal Pot. My Painkiller $8 was not as great, or strong, as the Rum Punch I had there two weeks earlier...
but the 'Veggie Delight' $14.95 was even more fantastic. We spoke to the chef who is from the Dominican Republic and she said the Patties are made of Beans and Flour and topped with Creole Sauce. There has to be more involved because they are so tasty...
lots of pretty flowers...
a better photographer would do justice to these...
picked up dinner at The Little Olive which is located near the car ferry dock...
they supposedly have a vegan daily special, but just didnt have it yesterday...
so I went with the 'Little Olive Plate' $8 Hummus, Olives, Locally Sourced Greens, Homemade Pickled Veggies and Pita. Very nice. This place is cash only, but they dont use styrofoam so yay!
almost home, a block from our house we saw a Red Footed Tortoise crunching on some leaves. He/she stopped eating to wait for me to go away...
It was a nice end to a day full of critters and beauty. Bye for now.

  1. What a great day! Too bad the wrap was lackluster but it brought you a darling goat friend so that all worked out :). Yeah i think there's a few steps the lunch chef left out of that beans and flour recipe..... Glad that lunch was awesome.
Maybe the Mr can convince randy radish truck to head over to the islands, they always seemed to have good stuff.
That turtle is adorable!! I bet he camoflages (is that a word?) right into the greenery.

  2. The wrap looked really fresh, but compared to some of the other food you've shown, definitely a little borin. I'm lad the goat liked it! The flowers, especially the pink one are beautiful! Island life looks amazing!

    1. My bad on the Wrap. Should have taken my time and thought before ordering. It worked out well in the end though;-)

  3. Sounds like a great day with your honey! I had fleeting thoughts on whether or not you had sold your property - I guess not! At least if he did get his way, and you moved back - the house would be there. Although, when it is bitterly cold and snowy - he might be happy to stay on the island!

Hunger does on occasion lead us in the wrong food direction. At least the second meal was spectacular!

I know you're not doing them anymore, but I'd love one "day in the life" post! I'd be curious to know about your new lifestyle!

    1. Yes, we are keeping the house in Virginia, but I hope and pray I never have to step foot in it again. I will ponder a day in the life post. Not sure what day would be most representative.

    1. You made me scroll back up to see what Broccoli you were talking about. It does look green, I agree. I need more colors on the blog even down here.

    1. I wish you could try the Bean Patties, too. Then you could try to recreate them and give me the recipe. Ever gonna blog again or was MoFo a big tease?

  6. OMG that goat is the cutest!!! What a little sweetie! I love these pics :) The meals all look so delicious and I'm surprised the wrap wasn't that great because it looks so good! The veggie delight looks AMAZING and you know I'm always down for some good mediterranean fare :)

  7. No word on whether or not the goat enjoyed your wrap? I'll bet you felt awkward with nothing to give the tortoise.
