More High Season Perks

There have been two instances recently where I was taking pics for the blog and was told not only to stop, but also to delete the pics I'd just taken. So when I saw this adorable Guavaberry Drink stand in Bovoni last week, I had the Mr. drive by slowly while I snapped pics from the car. Turns out such caution was completely unnecessary...
The woman at the stand, Lucia Henley, waved and called out to me to come over and see her products. Way to do business!
Ms. Henley only has her stand operating during the Christmas season, so I lucked out driving by when it was up. I bought a small Guavaberry Drink and a bottle of Native Seasoning, just for a trial run, even though she assured me everything was the best.
The Native Seasoning is well worth the hefty price tag. I believe I paid $15 for a four ounce bottle. Tried it first on Home Fries...
and then on some Vegan Chicken Patties I'd picked up at Plaza Extra. Plaza Extra was one of the places I was told by security to stop taking pics. I had discovered several freezers in the back full of these Verisoy products. Average price was $7.50 per bag. Hope they continue to stock them...
The Chicken Patties with the Native Seasoning were delicious as well. Leftover Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta on the side from The Pie Whole...
Enjoyed a drizzle of the Guavaberry Drink on some Strawberry Almond Milk Ice Cream and surprise! that was good as well (pic taken at night when most people indulge)...
so I plan to hightail it back to Ms. Henley's stand this weekend and stock up on some more of her seasonal goodies.
My hand had to hold the branch still to photograph the flowers. Lots more to come. Bye for now.

  1. It's like summer at your place! I only want to eat hot food, thus it has been difficult to convince myself to eat a salad. It's snowing as I type this.

I love the little local pop up shops - a great way to support your island and find some new treats!

  2. I'm always scared to take pictures when I'm in a store, because i feel like I'm going to get in trouble. When I took pictures at Grocery outlet, I asked for permission! It seems if someone is taking pictures for their blog, or any social media it would be good for business, but I guess not everyone sees it that way. The home fries look delicious!

    1. over the years, I just figured the more obvious I am about taking pictures, the less noticable it will be. Not down here apparently.

  3. i wonder why people are so concerned about having photos taken. I mean, i feel weird taking them but like VeganPeace said, it's usually good for business. maybe that's not how things work on "the island."
The chickn patty looks bomb. Is native sauce spicy?

    1. Some people do appear suspicious of my camera. Like I am some evil spy out to take them down or who knows what. The Native Spice isnt spicy, not like Jerk seasoning. Lots of different spices in it. Very mysterious. and probably meant to stay that way.

  4. That's annoying that they stop you from taking pics and just obnoxious to tell you to delete them. They need to get over themselves. On t h e other hand, that's great that the woman at the stand was so cool. Glad you enjoyed your purchases!

    1. That's what I should have said, "Get over yourselves!" I think that would have gone over swimmingly;-)

  5. I love your roadside stands! What great finds! A good spice blend mix can really perk up otherwise not so interesting basic veggies and such, sounds like that was worth it.
Is guavaberry drink different from just guava juice??
Btw, a while back after your comment that sorrel= hybiscus i found "sorrel soda" in a random ethnic grocery and it was the most amazing fuscia color! Made a fun drink with some vodka, lemon and seltzer :)

  6. I have guavaberry liquor from St.M that's is amazing! I just noticed it's less than half full so I'm enjoying it sparingly.
