Thanksgiving

This Thursday past was the first Thanksgiving I ever attended at the home of a non-relative. It was so pleasant and peaceful. I brought Hummus, Baba Ghanoush, Cracker and Olives. Enjoyed alongside Green Beans, Sweet and Sour Beets(!) and Salad. It was all delicious and satisfying without bringing on the customary depression...
dessert at the gathering was not vegan but I had purchased a locally-made Pie for $15 for my own desserts at home...
at first I thought the crust was too tough and the filling too sweet...
but after a couple days in the fridge it tasted better and I have just been eating slices by hand....
Pie pics that were in focus were lost when a dog fight erupted and my camera hit the floor...so the above food pics were taken with iphone and ipad. Still diving on most days off. Below are a couple Spotted File Fish just to mix things up a little...
For those wondering about my 'grabbing' dogs off the street, I should have clarified that there is a pet over-population problem on the Island. The Humane Society is overloaded and has to fly dogs to the mainland to find homes for them. The two Pups I found may have originated from somebody's home at one time, but the below Pup was starving, covered in fleas and had a terrible skin infection when I found him...
Sadie had already had at least one litter and has since been spayed and has begun treatment for heartworm. Heartworm is another common tragedy down here.
Thanks for looking. I will work to replace my camera for future posts since my iphone doesnt take the pretty pics like everyone else's. Bye for now.

  1. Sounds like a perfect thanksgiving to me! Definitely a delicious looking plate and the pumpkin pie looks delicious.

I can't deal with those sweet faces!! I'm so glad that you all found each other and that those sweet babies have a loving home.

    1. Thanks, Sarah! It was a lovely Thanksgiving. Obviously, one of the best I ever had. Course, I have had some real bad ones over the years.

  2. That is so sad about the overpopulation. I wish I could move there and buy a big house and have it be for all deserted animals. I agree with Sarah, I'm so happy you found them, and they found you!!

  3. Uugh, i hope your camera is fixable and not really dead..!
How fantastic to enjoy thanksgiving with friends :)) really impressive that you had such a pile of beets! My friend made a fabulous russian beet salad at thanksgiving that has chopped walnuts mixed in, it was my favorite thing.
I made a mushroom walnut pate that i brought to my first celebration with some crudite and seedy crackers, and then the hostess actually asked me to make my now well known holiday salad which i brought to the second celebration (it's thin sliced fennel and celery with arugala, radishes, pomegranate seeds, toasted pumpkin seeds...all kinds of stuff)

Those cuties are so lucky to have you as a new mom :))

    1. If I am going to be socializing at holiday gatherings, I will be needing your Salad recipe. The Mushroom Pate sounds like it could be made without an oven as well.

The camera is dead. Didnt realize how things had changed since I bought it. Have to use wifi to load pics to my ipad. It is majorly complicated and not taking such great pics.

  4. Oh no! I hope the dog fight doesn't involve Molly. She's just too sweet. My heart just breaks for Piglet and Sadie - you did the right thing!

I'm glad you had a great Thanksgiving!!

    1. These 'fights' break out several times a day. The Mr. calls them 'saber rattling'. There is no bloodshed, just a lot of barking, baring of teeth and so forth.

  5. The fur-babies are beautiful and you're an angel for taking them in. Hopefully, the Mr. is coming around....?

    1. Unfortunately not. I offered to send him off island to visit family on the mainland, but he wants to stay here and make me miserable instead.

    1. I guess the Beets were in lieu of Cranberry Sauce. They were tasty, not disgusting as usual.

We have the four dogs and five cats in the house. It is a lot of work.

  7. I've been reading the comments and can't help but think that little pup now has a name, even if it wasn't what you intended - Piglet! So cute. So perfect.
