Summer Tomatoes

Ingrid's post reminded me that I had not yet had a Summer Tomato this year. I stopped at a popular produce stand on Saturday and they had about fifteen Tomatoes for sale. Plaintains appear to be the favorite item...
a dollar for one...
$3.29 for a half dozen of these frozen Everything Bagels...they were pretty humongous, but tasty...
Tofutti Cream Cheese is sold here for around $4 or $5 a tub...
The Tomato was so freakin' delicious, I went back to the produce stand today to get more...
and the vendor started handing me a whole bunch saying nobody wants them and they were going soft! So I got seven Tomatoes for a dollar! A dollah!
enjoyed another one for lunch...
and shared a 'soft' one with the Chickens...
they scarfed it up so fast, most pics were a blur...
blur...
blur...
and I still have five more to enjoy (but only four Bagels)...
Thanks, Ingrid! Bye for now.

Love Livin

Love Livin is yet another fantastic vegan restaurant...
the restaurant is literally a drive-thru, but with face-to-face ordering...
they have a couple Papaya Trees in front (a few leaves showing signs of the prolonged drought)...
I eat soup all year round, so I was interested in their 'Ital Soup' made with Lentils, Pumpkin, Cauliflower, Beets, Celery and lots of other Veggies. Very nourishing...
Their Cashew Cheese Lasagna is heavenly. So delicate it practically floats off the plate..
this was a large carry-out order of BBQ Tofu, Lentils and Kale...Mr. STVegetarian and I split the order...
we could not identify the yellow stuff which tasted like mashed Banana and Mango....
Yet more carryout (Stir Fry, Kale Salad and Beet Salad) that has yet to be broken up into smaller portions to be eaten throughout the week...
Hibiscus. Hard to believe Sorrel Drink is made from these, but supposedly...
Really love livin down here! Bye for now.

Food and Critters

Boca Burger with Fries and bottle of Sorrel from Natural Livity....
'Spaghetti with Herb Garlic Chili Oil' at The Pie Whole. Spaghetti tossed with Olive Oil, Parsley, Oregano, Basil, Garlic and Crushed Red Pepper (they left off the meat and cheese)...
when a cruise ship is in town, this guy shows up at the Magen's Bay overlook with a donkey wearing flowers on it's head. The tourists pay to pose with the donkey. I took this pic while driving by to avoid paying...
two cats that are always at Magen's Bay..
a bird spotted in the Mangroves at Magen's Bay...
a snoozing brother and sister...
More food stuff in the blogging hopper. Bye for now.

Sam & Jack's Deli

We took the ferry to St. John yesterday. Based on this episode of Caribbean Life, we already knew  of Sam and Jack's Deli...
Upon docking, we walked about a half mile up hill to the 3rd floor of The Marketplace...
We got to meet the star of the episode, Samantha, and also partake of some great food...
My 'Build Your Own' Sandwich with Artichokes, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Hummus and Sprouts $11. Very high quality ingredients...
after that delicious start, we walked back towards the dock and rented a Jeep to tour the Island..
driving from Cruz Bay to Coral Bay we saw some wild Donkeys on the side of the road...
developers are trying to turn tiny Coral Bay into a mega-yacht marina, destroying the natural habitats of Turtles and other gentle creatures, so if you got any extra money laying around, there is a Go Fund Me Page to Save Coral Bay...
heading back towards Cruz Bay we stopped to look at Maho Bay...
this guy was loving life...
Trunk Bay...
waiting to depart for St. Thomas, we saw some lucky Water Pups...
another one...
this guy was selling Coconuts at the dock for a dollar each. Wouldnt you know he put down the machete right before I took the pic...
Check out that guy's dreds. Said he had been growing them for 18 years...
some more beauty upon arrival in the Red Hook parking lot
Lots more food and pics coming up this week. Bye for now.

Yabba's

Yabba's is another little Rastafarian spot in Charlotte Amalie (towards the east end of the cemetery, not easy to find)....
I was trying to get pic of the innards (just a counter) from the outside, but the door shut...
these pics were taken last Tuesday. I got a large order to go for $14...
the pics dont do the food justice. It was all fantastic and actually got better with time...
I know this because I am still eating it over a week later...so $14 for several meals is a great deal...
after work this afternoon, we went to Dorothea Bay because we heard dogs are allowed...
the beach was completely deserted...
except for lots of Pelicans...
but of course, Molly would not go near the water...
maybe she got enough smells to entertain her dreams tonight...
a gorgeous succulent beach plant. There were little purple flowers, the camera didnt pic them up...
a last glimpse at least we tried...
an Orange flowering plant...
Still settling in. Ups and downs. Bye for now.
