Weekend Breakfast

I have lamented before on the slim pickins around here for vegan breakfast on the weekend. Delly Deck does well with the Grits and Fresh Fruit, their Oatmeal is premade with milk...
I have also tried Delly Deck's Plain Bagel (only flavor they have) with Lettuce, Tomato and Onion. This option may work again in the future if I bring my own Tofutti Cream Cheese. That Onion was strong, probably helped keep the mosquitos at bay for a few days...
Barefoot Buddha has the Smoothies...
and some vegan Cakes and Donuts...
oddly, their Donuts tasted like Muffins...
Cup and Cork has the PB & Jelly option, which, while extremely delicious, is over in seconds. I guess I could order two...
the absolute worst breakfast ever was the bowl of Quaker Instant Cinnamon Raisin Oats at Shoreline Bar & Grill. Not even the blissful waterfront location could make up for this crime...
plus they had no Fresh Fruit, so a non-vegan 'Fruit Pastry' was subbed which the Mr. ate and said gave him heartburn...
currently, the best vegan breakfast I can find on the island is Pasta Go Go's Peanut Butter and Banana Panini (specify no butter), but this is only because they are temporarily open on Saturdays during the high season...
Yes, I still miss Le Pain Quotidien's Tofu Scramble (not yet back on their menu last I checked) It was the best vegan breakfast I ever had and it looks like it will remain that for me ever more. Thanks for the sympathy. Bye for now.

  1. Yikes....! Those are slim pickings. Maybe those smoothie shops are the way to go...
And the quaker instant oats??? Bleh. I'm surprised there aren't fried plantains somewhere or chia pudding...
Tofu scramble is hard to come by on brunch menus even here :/

    1. The Instant Oatmeal was really shameful. I know you are just saying that about the Tofu Scramble to make me feel better. I just want a leisurely weekend breakfast where I can read and observe life over a hot meal prepared by someone other than myself. Wah!

  2. I know how much you loved your weekend brunches so I feel your pain. The options are not ideal but some definitely look better than others! The pb and banana panning looks great and you could add a smoothie if you want a more substantial meal. Vegan brunch isn't a thing here either, I can't find a tofu scramble anywhere near me either...

    1. Your area remains a mystery to me. I am still not sure what is going on there. Although you do have Bagel Boss.

  3. Yikes, that instant oatmeal looks particularly depressing. It looks like what people think all vegan food looks like! I remember all the beautiful brunch pictures, tofu scrambles, tempeh Reubens, and other delicious looking foods. It's strange that vegan lunch and dinner foods are pretty abundant, but not breakfast/brunch. Also super weird that the restaurant didn't have any fresh fruit????

    1. The no fresh fruit thing was strange, but I am grateful they didnt try subbing canned fruit cocktail to go with the instant Oatmeal.

  4. Sympathy coming your way! Maybe you should suggest a tofu scramble and potatoes to a restaurant?! They could call it the Shen Special.

Grits can fill a hole, glad they serve them without butter!

    1. I have thought about suggesting the Tofu Scramble at a couple places. Might get up the nerve one of these days. The restaurants do well by the Grits. Seem to be a thing they know how to cook down here.

  5. Smoothies definitely sound like the best option to me but grits have always sounded appealing. Not sure i've ever had em.
Even here i've taken to just buying tofutti and a bagel separately. or, in Boston just this last weekend, if i'd had PB or something on my bag the bagel wouldn't have been as sad. Its a bummer to not have the option but there are ways to get around it. Or, you could always make breakfast at home :)

  6. The Bearded Vegans were complaining in the most recent podcast that cake donuts taste like cupcakes, so maybe that's the problem with those donuts. I too can't believe you don't at least make breakfast at home!
