Nicole Drenched Us

Saturday, we enjoyed the calm before the storm at Amalia Cafe ...
Sunday late lunch was at Melt. My Salad with Seasoned Tofu and Guac almost made up for there being no Chipotle on the Island...
Didn't detect much vodka, but it was still a huge drink for $5...
a return to The Pie Whole for Tuesday's lunch. This restaurant is a long time Island favorite, but had gone down hill, fortunately, new ownership is trying to right the ship...
They did good, my 'Spicy SDT' had the proper proportions of Sun-Dried Tomatoes, Capers, Onions, Crushed Red Pepper and Pine Nuts. Not too spicy or too oily as it had been in the past. This may be the first time I have ever experienced a restaurant go from good to bad and then actually back to good.
a recent underwater snap of a school of Snapper...
Dory...
always thrilling to see a Turtle...
the below pic is of Steve Job's $200 million dollar yacht, Venus, which has been docked here a few weeks. It is super un-impressive to my eyes, but if they invited me on, I guess I would accept...
Lots more to come. Bye for now.

  1. Yikes, sorry that you had to deal with Nicole but it seems like you made it out a bit soggy but otherwise ok? The meals look incredible, especially that first dish from Amalia Cafe. What a lovely looking plate. I am obsessed with that turtle picture, it is incredible! Turtles are one of my favorite animals and this is just gorgeous.

I don't watch a lot of TV at all but one show I watch is called Below Deck and it is a silly "reality" show on Bravo about the crew on board of a luxury yacht. It's so entertaining!

  2. Your salad with tofu and guac looks better than anything from chipotle..! Tasty cheap bloody marys are a great find- the best ones i have had don't even taste boozy, but then i stand up and it hits me..! Haha.
The turnaround of Pie Hole sounds promising-and the pasta certainly looks fantastic, gotta love some capers.

I wonder what has kept Steve Jobs yacht there so long..? It looks ginormous.
I hope you get lucky the rest of hurricane season, even "just the rain " can be kinda scary stuff.

Thanks for asking, i did finally kick the cold this week which i think is due to the bizarre amount of green juice i was making and drinking.

    1. I have no idea why that huge yacht has been here so long. It would be of interest to many people to know what is up with that. Dock security wont let folks get too close either.

Glad you conquered the cold. I used to get colds all the time when I rode D.C. metro to work. Hot rum toddies were what I turned to.

  3. I agree with T that the tofu salad from Melt looks better than Chipotle. Yum!

Gorgeous diving photos! I bet you never tire of it!

I'm happy to hear you'll persist in blogging, as you have great content to share! I'll commit to doing until I've run out of interesting things to share. ;)

That yacht is very generic for being sooooo expensive.

    1. I agree, I would take the money and buy one yacht and then still have $199 million left to spend.

  6. I wanted to say thank you for sharing your VI experiences on your blog. I have been meaning to write this for a few months now and am finally getting around to it...

My husband and I got married on St. Thomas back in October and then honeymooned for about a week on St. John. I appreciated your blog SO MUCH in preparing for our trip! About a month prior, I had gone through the majority of your blog posts and created a Google map with all of the places you loved and in the notes added what your favorite dishes were. That was so helpful! We were only on St. Thomas for two days so we didn't get to try much but we did love Pie Whole, Greengos and De'Coal Pot. I was also very impressed by Sunset Grille where we had our reception. They made a great tofu pad thai for us, although I'm not sure it's on their regular menu.

The next time you hop over to St. John you HAVE to eat at Longboard! They had a roasted cauliflower taco that was superb and my husband enjoyed a fried avocado quinoa bowl. Plus, they make the best frozen painkillers. We also really enjoyed eating at Cruz Bay Landing on St. John. They had a delicious chickpea and roti dish that we ate twice. Another cute find was a food truck called Little Olive that served greek food. They had a vegan options like hummus with pita, falafel, beet salad, greek salad and sweet potato fries.

Again, thank you so much for your help! Because of you, our honeymoon was filled with great memories and amazing food! - Danielle
