We went to the Bordeaux Farmer's Market on Sunday. It is notable for being on the west end of the island with lots of cool Rastifarian food and drink...
talk about your fresh Bananas...
talk about your fresh Mangos...
there was a DJ playing really good music. The guy in the hat was giving out free Boiled Peanuts...
below is the view... we sat and looked at this for while waiting for more stalls to open. It doesnt pay to get there at 10am 'opening time' unless you want to just hang out and look at the scenery...
below is the whole reason to go to this market. This woman assembles and cooks 100% vegan food right here in her stand...
$14 for Sweet and Sour Tofu on Mashed Potatoes. Included was a Lentil Burger, a Plaintain along with mixed Vegetables and the Side Salad. Incredible that she made this beautiful food all by herself with so few modern conveniences...
More to come. Bye for now.
That food really does look beautiful.I bet the bananas and mangoes are amazing there!
ReplyDeleteWell, to be honest, I havent bought any local Bananas. I will do so this weekend.
DeleteMy saliva glands just kicked in at the mention of passion fruit! That's cool I've never seen a mango tree before. That's awesome he's just cruising with free peanuts. I've never eaten boiled peanuts. I'd be showing up at the market for her luscious food too, the writing above her is pretty epic too :0
ReplyDeletePassion Fruit lived up to it's name. Wish I could have gotten better pics of her stand. Maybe next week.
DeleteOoh, passion fruit juice is delicious! If you find passion fruit sorbet that's really tasty too. The fresh fruit itself has gorgeous colors yet a weird texture because of all the seeds. I would go to the market just for that lady's stand too! What a great selection she had! And that view....
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see your reply to ingrid that you're enjoying your new home so much :)) i giggled though because who even uses checks any more?? I literally don't own checks- everything paid online, by phone, or debit card...
I would love to do day trip biking in europe, like a tour of the city or something, but the longer multi-day ones i dunno, i'm not quite that hard core! It was hard to say bye to Jaggy and Piggs (the cat who loves to sleep on my back when i sleep), but i'll be back soon enough for christmas!
Ttrockwood
I barely use checks anymore either, but it is good I got them. Local contractors and the propane delivery guy etc dont want to pay them in hundreds of dollars in cash and they dont take credit cards. In fact, you have to carry a lot of cash down here as a lot of places dont take credit cards.
DeletePiggs?! Sounds like a love ball.
So your parents didnt visit this year? I believe our Governer is coming to your area for a Caribbean Parade this weekend. Let me know if you see anything about it.
Shen, it is clear, you have reached the ultimate vegan, chilled-out-paradise dream.
ReplyDeleteDon't be surprised if I show up on the beach one of these days.
I would strongly advise you to treat yourself to such a trip. There is also Hawaii which aint so far away from you...
DeleteWow, what a lovely market in a beautiful setting! All that fresh produce, and that feast plate look amazing.
ReplyDeleteThanks. The 'feast plate' as you so aptly called it was a very unexpected and pleasant surprise.
DeleteSoooooo jealous of plush farmers markets! Ours is suffering because of city and state laws...sigh...
ReplyDeleteThat is horrible news. Have you posted about it on your blog?
DeleteI think you should get there at "opening time", if only for relaxation and view! Delicious looking meal prepared by the vegan cook - does she name her stall/tent anything in particular?
ReplyDeleteP.S. I was so happy to hear that this move has turned out to be positively life changing!
P.P.S. How's Poley? Terra had a small stroke yesterday, my parents feel it might be time but Mom isn't ready. It's so sad, but she's 15 and not really eating. I'm not going to post about it, but wanted to tell the few who might ask.
The vegan cook is, as yet, nameless to me. she only cooks at the Farmers Market twice a month but said she could do catering. But, as you know from my previous post, I dont have anything going on in the near future that would require a caterer.
DeletePoley is hanging in there. Still pounding the Prednisone, which makes him hungry, so I am feeding him round the clock. That is terrible news about Terra. I am with your Mom on this type of thing -- if Terra isnt in pain, keep her going.
That's so funny, if you don't get to some of the markets here at opening time there is not much left to choose from! That view is a pretty good trade off for getting there early. It looks so peaceful and beautiful. Do you ever bring the pups with you?
ReplyDeleteThose mangoes look HUGE!!! Oh man I'm so jealous. That huge serving of fresh food for $14 seems like a pretty great deal. Everything looks so fresh you really can't beat that. I'm definitely jealous of that amazing meal. Seems like a pretty great way to spend a day!
The Island is so dog friendly, I do plan to try and take Molly to another, calmer, beach soon. Opening times dont mean much here. Not just for Farmers Markets, but actual retail establishments. Sometimes the customers (me) are just stuck out in the heat wondering if they will ever open, and eventually they do, but by then I am soaked in sweat and about to pass out. Cant do as much shopping as I intended.
DeleteI love all the pics! Thanks for sharing the island farmer's market. Beautiful AND vegan food stand! Can't ask for much more!

No, we definitely got way more that we hoped for with that Farmers Market.
