Scoops & Brew

Vegan Ice Cream, like rainfall, is in short supply here. Scoops and Brew to the rescue...
the hours are a little odd since the only time I want Ice Cream is after dinner and by then they are closed....
Moe's Market in Red Hook is the one other place I have found selling Vegan Ice Cream. I am willing to pay the price, but having a cooler packed with ice and being prepared to race home after purchasing have been my only impediments...
also saw these as Moe's which I will procure once I get the ice chest packed and the engine running...
but back to Scoops and Brew...the interior...
they appear to have the same three flavors at all times. Just noticed the Sorbet from looking at my own pic...
the Double Chocolate was decent...
served in a little paper cup with a tiny plastic spoon...
the Peanut Butter tasted like Peanut Butter, but neither was actually like Gelato. Still, it is great of them to make the effort. I was even able to get the below Peanut Butter Gelato a few minutes past their 6 pm closing time...
a delightful flower sprouting from a brick wall..
Enjoying all the MOFOing. Bye for now.

  1. That's actually the same price as vegan ice cream at the market in my neighborhood- and if i buy it elsewhere it's the same race home with ice packs problem.

Looks like a cute place! They must sell more coffee than ice cream so they close earlier but that is obnoxious...you cant be the only one who wants ice cream after dinner! Those sorbet flavors look good too.
How is the pup doing? (Poley or paley?)

I think that italy is like france and they just deny the existence of lactose avoidant people. The gelato shops always did have fabulous sorbetti but i suspect that was a happy accident more than an offering to those who can't have milk.

    1. I guess I dont feel so bad knowing that you pay the same prices. I am used to the $4 range for a pint of Vegan Ice Cream. $6 max if I splurge on Coconut Bliss or Cashew Milk.

Poley is hanging in there, thank you for asking. Our other pup, Teddy, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, so it has been a horrible loss. Gonna take a while to get over.

Time to hear about your latest biking and brunching experiences.

  2. Closing so early is kind of strange. I hope you get a cooler soon, then you can have vegan ice cream in the comfort of your own home! Maybe they will get cashew milk ice cream soon. If it makes you feel any better, the prices aren't that much higher!

  3. Oh I wish I could send you ice cream! $7.00 is a very hefty price to pay for ice cream. You are better off getting an ice cream maker and doing it yourself! At least they do have options if the craving hits. The gelato does look really great, even if it doesn't have the exact same texture. All three flavors sound really yummy too.

Have you ever tried making banana ice cream? It's definitely not the same but it tastes really great, especially in a pinch!

    2. I have never made my own Ice Cream, I need to research that.

I swear your birthday is a different month every year. Sometimes in the spring and sometimes in the fall. Never during winter or summer.

  4. It does seem like strange hours for an ice cream shop....7am?
The ice cream looks good though. Pineapple sorbet sounds yummy.

  5. Ooh, peanut butter ice cream... I don't think there's anything better! I might like it more than chocolate! Glad you found a nice spot to enjoy a scoop. Ice cream pints are ridiculously priced in general.

Agreeing with Sarah - Banana ice cream at home is always a great way to go!

    2. Frozen bananas, splash of almond/whatever milk (too much and it becomes a smoothie). Blend away! I like to add cocoa powder/nibs, pb, or vanilla extract.
