After the hour long boat ride, we waited in line at Immigration for a half hour...
then we walked to Maria's By The Sea for breakfast...
it was pretty empty, so we sat back and enjoyed the view and eventually a server materialized...
my Tropical Fruit Plate $8 was just right...
then we hired a taxi driver for one hour at $55 to show us the Island. The driver was 72 years old and mainly talked about himself. The 'tour' only last an hour because he literally drove five miles per hour so we didnt see much. Took a pic of Guana Island...
and a pond teeming with Water Hibiscus...
then the driver dropped us off at Pussers...
of course, we had Painkillers $9 each...
split a 'Potato Chip Tree' $11.50....
then we browsed some colorful shops...
saw a guy actually painting...saw some pretty flowers...
more flowers...
paid $20 pp departure tax and got back on the ferry to go home...
two Brown Boobys accompanied the ferry. Diving for fish alongside it...
more Brown Booby...
Took about thirty pics of the Boobys....
So that was a full day. Bye for now.
The picture of the island is so beautiful. At least you have gorgeous scenery to look at while you wait for service! The potato chip tree looks amazing! Do I see some diced tomatoes on the tree? I'm loving all the pictures of flowers!
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful Island. I hope to do a better job of enjoying it next time.
DeleteHuh. Not sure you've convinced me to visit Tortuga myself, but looks like it was a fun field trip for the day.... (Are grapes tropical??)
ReplyDeleteThe painkiller and chips look fabulous. Seriously the bird is called a "booby"?!? That's too funny.
Piggs IS an loveball cuddle cat, and when he sits on my lap and purrs it makes me go to sleep almost instantly! Mom and Dad are very busy goofing off elsewhere lately and decided they've been here more than enough times- as i'm writing this they are visiting friends outside of Tuscany before heading to greece.... (Yeah I'm jealous too)

You would love Tortola. My depiction isnt an accurate representation, just a couple hours around the capitol. Coincidentally, I met a little black dog at the vet's last week named 'Tuscany', after her owner's favorite place. We know your parents are certainly eating well. I dont think I could stick to veganism in Italy, the Pizza thing you know...
DeleteLooks like a fun day out in the land of potato chip trees, painkillers, and Boobys...fantastic!
ReplyDeleteIt was a lot of stimuli for one day. Big leap from Virginia.
DeleteIs the island part of the Commonwealth? Hahaha I totally see this waiter emerging from the sea to ask what you'd like to drink and what kind of a name is Pussers? was it the drivers choice? After the expenses thus far I'd be needing a painkiller too! but gorgeous day trip, the hibiscus pond, chicken wandering the flagstone street, are the islands volcanic around there? Nice shots of the BB's too!
ReplyDeleteThe USVI are considered a 'territory' so I am not sure if that means we are part of the Commonwealth. Pussers derived from 'Purser' as job in the Navy. Again, I am not really well versed on this stuff yet. We trusted the driver to know how to give a tour, but that was a mistake.
DeleteHahaha are you sure he was the tour driver and not some random senior that invited you into his car?
DeleteLooks like a really fun day trip!! The island is so beautiful, I bet it was so nice and peaceful. I think it would take me a while to get used to island time though ;) I'm used to ny pace!
ReplyDeleteYes please to the potato chips and zucchini fries!! Yum!
I am still not used to island time, but things really do eventually get done here.
DeleteSounds like an expensive and mostly unfulfilling day, but boobies!!
ReplyDeleteIt was. The Boobies were the highlight. No doubt.
