Gladys' Cafe

I swore up and down I wouldn't blog here daily, but I have a glut of pics to get through, so hopefully, this information dump will be over soon. Today, we explored the capital of St. Thomas, Charlotte Amalie. It is primarily composed of jewelry shops catering to duty free shoppers, so I dont expect to spend much time there. Lunch was down an alley way at Gladys' Cafe...
it was a relief to get out of the heat into the cool stone environs...
the only vegan option on the menu was the 'West Indian Delight' $12.95 - Rice and Pigeon Peas, Fungi (like Polenta) with Creole Sauce, White Sweet Potatoes, Plaintains and Salad. It was tasty, but I dont feel in a rush to return...
I tried a drop of the mildest one of their famous hot sauces and it was a scorcher. No can do...
other things of note today include being startled by this pup. We were calmly browsing a store that sells items salvaged from the sea when a white mound on the display case suddenly moved. A lovely surprise once we realized what it was...
adorable miniature bottles of Cruzan Rum. Too cute to ever open and drink...
got a pic of a Yellow Flamboyant Tree (the majority are the Orange/Red Color)...
and another angle of Magen's Bay (where we plan to swim tomorrow morning)...
So that wasnt too bad, was it? Bye for now.

  1. Sounds like won't have much reason to be in that part of the island much anyhow-that must have been some toxic hot sauce!! What a charming little corridor to the restaurant...
I bet those cutesy bottles look good empty too ;)
The idea of waking up every.single.day. to swim in the bay would get my ass outta bed in a hurry.
Maybe StT Vegan? Or ViVi? Oooorrrr bananadaquarivegan? Or accidentally sign up for google without filling in a screen name and later realize that "unknown" is actually the perfect screen name...?? Haha.
We had a proper lunch break today and i had LPQ gazpacho in bryant park. No beach though.

    1. Why arent you Unknown on this blog?! Unknown is the perfect name for you. STVegan sounds like an easy enuf email addy to set up. I will do that tomorrow. Not getting LPQ's Gazpacho before I left is one of my few (only?) regrets about leaving Virginia.

  2. Blogger ate my comment, wah! Basically I said that your furry little shopping buddy is so cute!! A perfect salesman for the store ;)

The liquor bottles are really cute! It seems like everything there is really cute… minus the hot sauce. Liquid fire is not cute.

The view looks beautiful and the water is so inviting. I hope you have a great time swimming and I'm so glad that you are settling in more and more every day.

    1. There is a lot of trash and abandoned buldings around the island, it is not all perfect, but I wont post that on the blog. I am settling in, thanks.

  3. I can't get over that view of Magen's Bay - just gorgeous! I bet you could make something like that dish - minus hot sauce - at home easily enough!

Driving on left, with the cliff at your side... Yes, I understand not going alone just yet!! Bicycle maybe? Although your driveway sounds pretty steep.

Are the felines forgiving you, and now roaming the guest room at ease?

    1. I have yet to see a single bicycle here. Wonder why? The felines have yet to forgive me. I have a room full of five cats that hate me. But it is so much more convenient than having a barn full of cats that like me.

  4. That dog is adorable and that shop sounds really awesome. Maybe I should spend more time at the beach? Looking forward to learning more about your new home and haunts!
