Dining By The Water

Sometimes you just want to look at clear blue water while dining. Here are a few vegan-friendly places we've enjoyed recently. Enkai in Frenchtown...
the restaurant looks out on Water Island...the pic below was taken about five o'clock in the afternoon, but it gets darker here earlier...
we started with the Edamame...Our server double-checked on the Tempura Green Beans and reported back that there was dried egg in the batter. She was very diligent about confirming everything was vegan...
we each got an order of Vegetable Rolls. 'Cucumber Roll' for He Who Loves Virginia More Than The Virgin Islands...
and 'Pineapple Express' for me. Cucumber, Avocado, Pineapple and Daikon Sprouts. I even ate the Pickeled Ginger. See how close we were to the water? Buds are $2...
rolled Wasabi Sesame Seeds...
we split a platter made vegan called 'The Storm'. Under all that Arugula, Tomato, Crispy Onions and Sauce were Tofu Rolls...
Caramelized Plaintains on top of the Rolls. Made a little mess. Will definitely return.
Another waterfront option is Latitude 18 in Vessup Bay...
the view is beautiful...
the water is teeming with fish like Snapper and Tarpon...
but the best part for me were all the Iguanas. They came within inches of me to eat the Fries I offered them...
although management said we shouldnt encourage them cuz other patrons arent as thrilled as I am by their presence...
in addition to the view, the fish and the reptiles, there was the 'Ultimate Vegan Burger' $14. Lentils, Local Pumpkin, Mushrooms, Carrots, Red Peppers, Summer Greens, Walnuts and Ground Flax. I usually prefer soy-based Burgers, but this Burger was great. Pretty sure the bun was not vegan. We will be returning soon and often...
Last and, IMO, least is Iggie's in Bolongo Bay. It is located on the beach, but I only took two pics. One of a cup of water to show where I was...
and the other is of my Black Bean Burger. The server said the Burger was vegan. I am pretty positive the bun was not. Since I am not a fan of Black Bean Burgers, I probably wont be returning to Iggie's...
so that post ended with a fizzle. Here is a flower to brighten your day.
Bye for now.

  1. That sushi made my mouth water! And the views are amazing! The black bean burger definitely looked bland and boring!

  2. Is that an average size for an iguana? It looks pretty big. Pumpkin in a burger patty is a great idea. How can an island have so many places for vegans to it keeps surprising me. The sushi salad is awesome!

    1. Instead of squirrels in the road, we have to watch out for iguanas. I do sort of miss squirrels.

  4. Whoa!!! WHat beautiful food and even more beautiful views! I'm so jealous of those crystal blue waters. Water here tends to be a little more murky… The iguana pic is so cute! They are so cute, and I bet you continued to feed them on the sly after management tried to lay a smack down, ha. The first burger looked amazing and the sushi looks fresh and lovely!

    1. Well, actually I did keep feeding the iguanas after the first warning, but stopped after the second warning. Didnt want management mad at me or the iguanas.

That first veg burger does look like a good fat one. I wonder if they would add avocado if you asked nicely.... ? Killer view.
I'm in the lizards can stay over there i'll be over here camp. The iguanas i would cross the street to avoid...!

Cryptic menus are a "thing" here now. Descriptions are like "onion, seeds, farro" or someshit. It's obnoxious.

    1. It is kinda bothersome to say the least to try to convince someone to like it here. So you probably would not enjoy a Banana Daiquiri next to some iguanas whilst gazing out over a cemetery;-) Cuz that can easily be done here. Those cryptic menus I believe are doing themselves a disservice. Menu descriptions should be enticing, not begrudging.

  6. Enkai looks like an delicious sushi spot! Very elegant presentation, too! However, Latitude has such a killer view!! It's frustrating when butter or egg are in buns, especially since I find it requisite to enjoy the, with burgers or dogs. *Sigh*

    1. In addition to bringing my own vegenaisse, I may need to start bringing my own bread when I go out. Guess it is doable.

  7. Love the iguana action...too bad locals think of them as pests...I would love to have an iguana come round for seconds.

The vegetable rolls look like they have a life of their own, very yummy-looking.

Impressive discernment on the burger buns...what gave it away?

    1. You can just tell when you encounter one of those super-processed buns made with fifty ingredients you cant pronounce.

  8. Don't you just want to kiss diligent servers right on the mouth? Boo to non-vegan bunz.
