The Fruit Bowl

This is another nice grocery store in Charlotte Amalie...
cool, bright and clean with very fresh produce...
a beautiful Salad Bar...
they keep it replenished and tidy...
when I finally partake, I will be weighing down my order with lots of these...
Beans Beans Beans and Beets bottom right...
Hard to believe Chao made it down here...
other sample prices...
$7.89 for a loaf of Ezekiel is gonna be tough going...
I got all excited about the prices on the bulk nuts...
till I realized they were per quarter pound..
A mile or two down the road, people bring empty jugs and this guy lops the tops off Coconuts and fills up their jugs.
Unfortunately, he didnt have any customers when I came by to take pics...
Here are some lovely white flowers...
Bye for now.

  1. ouch, the prices! It will probably at the least help you focus primarily on whole foods, right? :)
Drooling over the thought of a fresh cold coconut right now.

    1. Focus primarily on whole foods? I will have to ponder that suggestion.

  2. Yay for Chao!! It;s weird how some things are close to prices in the states, but some things are so much more expensive. Seeing all those beautiful tropical flowers must really make your day! The salad bar looks great too with all those beans!

    1. No clue how the prices are arrived at here. If only some Cashew Milk Ice Cream would make it here, I would would be willing to shell out the big bucks.

    1. There are lots and lots of coconuts to be found. I need to familiarize myself with how to pick ripe ones off the trees and ground. Gotta get my own machete. I saw out neighbor walking through his yard with one so it must be the thing to do.

    2. I remember everyone blogging about the cocojack (?) at a Veg Expo, it was like a 4 inch circle with a handle and you whacked it with a mallet and it made a prefect opening in the coconut to drink and scoop it. It was expensive though safer than a machete!

  4. Seeing as you are saving money not having to drive around NOVA, I say go ahead and buy what you want! It looks like a great grocery store, very similar features to mainland stores.

    1. It is great not to be paying $10+ a day in tolls to get to and fro. That is true.

  5. Nice to have a store with great produce although i would keep tomato stand guy in the picture as long as he has them :)
That chao stuff is $$$, one of the smaller groceries in my neighborhood sells it for $7. That salad bar looks like a good one! Nice for when you don't feel like chopping. And where is your jug??! Go see the coconut man! I bet fresh coconut water with lime juice and vodka is awesome....
No bloody mary brunch this weekend, seems everyone is taking long weekends out of town lately. I settled for a long bike ride and a frustrating appointment with the genius bar at apple. Followed by FKA lula's ice cream :)

    1. I was afraid to approach the Tomato vendor because I didnt want them to think I was looking for more free produce. Maybe this weekend. I dont have a jug! guess I will buy a gallon of water in order to get the jug. Doesnt it bug you that you have to make an appointment to see a 'genius'? They should be available 24/7. I was gonna ask if you saw the vegan ice cream recipe in the NYTimes food section, but then i remembered it was for Roasted Banana.

  6. I love these grocery store posts!!!! I'm so nosy about these types of things :) the salad bar is amazing... I want to live in it. I feel like the price for tofutti is comparable to my store. Maybe a dollar more? I could be lying.... I haven't purchased it in a while. The price on the nuts and Ezekiel bread made my heart hurt for you. That's ridiculous. The shopping carts full of coconuts are also ridiculous but in the best possible way. I hope you are going to bring your jug next time!

    1. The prices arent too outrageous, I agree. It is just the principle on some items. I spent so many years learning the bottom dollar prices on all these products.
