Water Island

The ferry to/from Water Island takes off next to Tickles Restaurant, so we had breakfast there while waiting for the 10am depature. I had the Fruit Platter (no native fruits, but still tasty) and Grits (not from instant!)...
Below is the ferry that left a half hour before our's....
it takes five minutes to get there...
upon arrival, you rent a golf cart for $50 to explore the island (the people who reside on the island use golf carts to get around as opposed to cars). Below is a view of St. Thomas from Water Island...
the Island celebrates the Fourth of July with a golf cart parade. Below is the staging area where the ferries dock...
the Grand Mistress of the Parade....
the parade ends on Honeymoon Beach where the two restaurants on the island are located. This is the view from Dinghy's Bar and Grill...
this guy erected a personal floating bar. Never seen that before...
I had a Painkiller at both Dinghy's and Heidi's Honeymoon Grill. Heidi's (below) was not only better, it cost a dollar less. Neither place accepts credit cards, so we didnt get anything food (fries or salad were the only options)...
lucky pup cooling off in the water...
the whole area is very dog friendly. People even bring their dogs over on the ferry to go to Water Island...
more of Honeymoon Bay...
pretty flowers growing wild...
there were lots more pics taken, but I will spare everyone. Bye for now.

  1. Actual grits are good! Funny that the fruit bowl didn't have mango or something native in it.
I love the "mistress" of the parade!! Adorable. What amazing crystal clear water there is , i hope you have been enjoying it too. And what restaurant anywhere doesn't take cards?? Those drinks sound good though, and if the only choices were salad or fries then i'm sure you found something better later on.
Love how dog friendly it is!

    1. I LOVE REAL GRITS!!!! So delicious. Yeah, the Fruit Salad was very delicious, but the restaurant would make more $$ if they used local fruit. Maybe they think tourists wouldnt like it or something? We have been swimming in the morning. Not as much as one would expect. Hopefully, more time will be spent at the beach when I can drive the car on my own.

  2. Water Island sounds awesome! Golf carts = reasonable transportation for island streets. Absolutely stunning water!! No fireworks display? I can imagine it would be tricky.

Have you met any neighbors? I'd be curious to know if most people you encounter were former "mainland-ers" or if they are just Captain Ron drifter types.

    1. So nice not to have fireworks this 4th. The Pups get so scared. Back in Virginia, gunshot were also part of the celebration. We have one neighbor who, thankfully, is very nice (not an old salt, but i do see them around). And quiet! Again, unlike our neighbors in Virginia. So far, everyone has been super friendly.

  3. Do you plan to go back to showing each meal once you get settled?

    1. I am going to do my best not to fall into that trap. My goal is to post bi-weekly once I get out this initial influx of information. So this blog will be much less repititive and hopefully with more of a personal aspect.

  4. It looks like a very different way of life, but man how beautiful is everything! That water is stunning. How are your barn kitties feeling about you? For the most part mine have all forgiven me. I love the new blog by the way!

    2. Marmalade and Buttercup have sort of forgiven me. Donovan is cautiously emerging from hiding a little bit. Jasper and Mystique will probably never forgive me. A smelly barn is apparently preferable to air conditioned comfort. So glad you're settlling back in! maybe you should take that security stuff off your blog so more people can comment.

  5. I can't believe how gorgeous your surroundings are. That water is so clear and beautiful. Did you go swimming the other day like you mentioned in your post? Is the water warm and amazing? Water Island looks so pretty and I love that it is so pup friendly. I also really love that everyone gets around by golf cart. I think that is so fun!

    1. That is why I moved here - for the beauty. There was probably some beauty to be found in the D.C. area, but I had no appreciation. I am still dependent on Mr. SV taking me to the beach, so I go when he goes. Which has been for the past three mornings. The water is warm and there are lots of fish that come right up to you that you can see without a mask or goggles. I still need to get Molly to the beach and see how she reacts.
