Trenchtown Rock

Trenchtown Rock (named after a neighborhood in Kingston, Jamaica) is an excellent restaurant in Charlotte Amalie...
it is not a place to go when in a hurry. Good food takes time...
these two beers are the most common here. Presidente from Santo Domingo and Carib from Trinidad $4 each with napkin affixed to top...
there are only two vegan entrees on the menu, but they are enough to keep us coming back: 'BBQ Tofu' with Fungi made vegan, Steamed Cabbage and Steamed vegetables $11. Outstanding...
another day's 'BBQ Tofu' with Rice & Beans and Steamed Vegetables...
and the 'Veggie Mezzi' $16.95 Vegetables and Pasta sauteed in Coconut Sauce. Also outstanding...
a cruise ship showed up today now that the storm has passed and the tourists flocked to see the Drake's Seat Donkey. I cant believe I live in a place where people want to take selfies...
cute bumper sticker...
a flower in bloom out front of Drina's Organic Farm...
Lots more to come. Bye for now...

  1. What a great spot! Why do they weap napkins on the top of the beer...? Loved your versions of tofu with curry sauce- how great to have multiple sources nearby! I'm so relieved the tropical storm was no big deal for you, those are worrisome in the islands.

I'm just back from CA, lots of sunshine, strawberries to die for, and wonderful produce at the farmers market. My sister and i biked along the big sur coastline the other day... I unplugged from life in general!

    1. I think the napkins on top of the beer were supposed to signify cleanliness or something? i dont know for sure, but they go to a bit of effort adhering them.

Glad you had a successful trip. Hope Jaggers wasnt too sad to see his big sister leave. Have you thought of doing a biking tour of Europe where the tour group trucks your luggage from city to city while you bike inbetween? I used to want to do a walking tour like that, but never made it happen.

  2. $17 for a plate of pasta seems a little outrageous but I guess that is part of a tourist economy! The BBQ tofu variations look great.

How about a lifestyle update!! Now that you've been working remotely for a while, what do you think? Less stressed? Still going swimming (once the aftermath of Erika has settled the waters)? Had any neighbors over? Entertain me while I look at teenagers and their angst all week.

    1. I was surprised when I got the bill to see I was charged $16.95 but it was really great. I would get it again. I was also surprised to see my first statement from 1st Bank of The VI. They charged me $44 for checks! Ouch!

The people here are enormously friendly. I could probably try to entertain if I so desired, but I dont think it will happen. Still swimming every Saturday and Sunday. My lifestyle is better in that I no longer have to structure my life around traffic. I am a million times happier. Been the best two months of my life.

  3. This place is a great find!!! The inside is cute and the food looks incredible. I think the first dish is probably most appealing to me but everything looks great.

It really seems like you've settled in nicely!! I hope it cools off enough soon to get some vegan desserts your way! I think I see some pumpkin bread in my future... I've had a random craving, ha! Maybe it's a craving for fall in general.

  4. It looks like they really know how to make tofu delicious. Glad the tropical storm didn't cause any trauma. Is the coconut sauce like a vegan Alfredo? It looks very creamy and delicious. All those beautiful flowers!

    1. The Coconut Sauce was creamy but not heavy. Maybe if it was Cashew Cheese it would be more like Alfredo. Yes, I am thrilled with all the flora and fauna here.

  5. I totally want to recreate that first dish! Glad the storm was no big deal, I imagine a lot blow through? Or does the island get socked in? Do you get thunder and lightning or just hurricanes? 'Just' isn't meant to down play how terrifying hurricanes are! Haha a selfie blitz, self-icanne, selfie-nado...

    1. This is currently the hurriacane season through October. We do get a little bit of thunder and lightning, but, mainly we get nothing at all because the drought just goes on.
