Greetings from Heidelberg

Touristy stuff first. Below is the Heidelberg Castle...
another view of it. I dont have the time or energy to get any closer...
below is the Marktplace (Alstadt) or maybe it is the Kornmarkt, I dont know. Yes, it has been grey and rainy...
the Carl Theodor Old Bridge (Alte Bruck). Tons of tourists...
the famous Brass Monkey...
from the back...
my hotel, The Goldener Hecht...
my room. 95 Euros, so around $130...
the bathroom...
they folded the toilet paper...I think...
the view from my room...
okay on to the vegan stuff. Lunch was at Pirates...
I went with the "classic" Flammkuchen since I've never had it before. I think it is supposed to be like a Pizza without the Tomato Sauce...
a local brew to take the edge off...
pretty decent. I actually ate the whole thing. I am like a walking Onion...
en route back to the hotel I stopped by Holy Kitchen for carryout...
it was impossible to choose, so I just went with a slice of the Cheesecake in the bottom left. Although, now from looking at the picture, I greatly regret not getting a Cupcake...
also got a piece of Quiche. Both are still in bag...
besides the above two restaurants, there were a lot of other vegan options around. Lots of people were eating Noodles from Onnoz...
An eye catching flyer, but I will be back in Frankfurt then...
anyway, the highlight of my day was walking up the stairs back to my hotel room and seeing this at the top of the steps. So many dogs are parading up and down the cobblestone streets, I was thrilled to have one I could consider my own (although I gotta admit, I had to make sure the dog was actually breathing, it was super zonked)...
Was that a big post or what? auf Wiedersehen für jetzt

  1. Yay, you were able to post! My jealousy is flying high right now, it looks so stunning there! That castle is incredible. The hotel looks really lovely and the little pup is an added bonus! Poor guy is all tuckered out.

Your vegan food finds look amazing! I love that there are so many options. I would have definitely checked out the noodle place, that sounds great. You can't go wrong with noodles and the prices look great! The baked goods look really yummy too, you'll have to let us know how you like them! What was on the pizza other than onions? It's hard to tell.

I hope you are having an amazing time and I'm so excited to see more! I request that you enjoy a vegan soft pretzel for me if you can find one. Soft pretzels may be one of my favorite foods ever so I'd love to live vicariously through you! Have fun and be safe!

  2. Hooray! So glad you're there, and it looks like you're having a great time! I'm excited to read about all of your adventures. My cousin, lives in Düsseldorf, is vegetarian and her husband (who is German) is vegan, so I've heard about their vegan haunts. I'm happy to know it extends to the country as a whole!

The hotel looks cozy, and your canine mascot is so cute!!

    1. Dusseldorf is most likely a great place to visit as well. So many quaint old world cities, so little time.

  4. The little dog, Emma, was so special. I love when hotels had resident dogs.
